Who septum surgery is for
The septum is the wall of cartilage and bone that divides your nose into two passages. When it is bent, whether from growth or from an old injury, one or both passages narrow. The result is familiar to many people: a nose that is always half-blocked, breathing that worsens when you lie down, mouth breathing at night, snoring, a dry mouth in the morning, and pressure or recurrent infections around the sinuses.
Septoplasty is the operation that straightens this wall from the inside. It changes nothing about the outward shape of the nose on its own; its purpose is airflow. Patients who also want the shape addressed can discuss combining it with rhinoplasty in a single operation.
What to expect at your first visit
Dr. Teker examines both nasal passages and the septum directly, assesses how much of your blockage comes from the septum and how much from other causes, such as the turbinates or the sinuses, and tells you honestly whether surgery would genuinely help. Many years of blocked breathing are often accepted as normal; the examination shows what "normal" could actually feel like.
If surgery is advised, you leave with a personal plan and a clear explanation of what the operation involves.

Does septoplasty change the shape of my nose?
On its own, no. Septoplasty works inside the nose and its purpose is breathing. If you also want the outward shape addressed, a combined operation with rhinoplasty can be discussed at your examination.
How do I know my blockage comes from the septum?
You cannot reliably know from the outside; that is what the examination is for. Dr. Teker inspects the septum and the nasal passages directly and tells you what is actually causing the blockage before any surgery is discussed.
Is the operation painful?
Comfort differs from person to person, and honest guidance follows your examination rather than a generic promise. Dr. Teker will explain what the operation and the days after it involve for your specific case.
Can a deviated septum come back?
Cartilage has memory, which is why the operation is planned carefully around your specific anatomy. Dr. Teker will discuss what is realistic for your nose at the examination.
