Protruding Ear Surgery in Istanbul
Otoplasty reshapes the fold of the ear and its angle to the head: about an hour of surgery, with the scar hidden behind the ear.
What protruding ear surgery is
Protruding ears are almost always simply how a person is born: the fold that should sit at the top of the ear did not fully form, so the ear stands at a wider angle from the head. It is not an illness. But it can weigh on people, often from school age when the teasing starts, and many adults arrive having quietly minded it for years, hiding their ears under their hair.
Otoplasty corrects this in a single operation. Working from behind the ear, the missing fold is created in the cartilage and fixed with permanent sutures, bringing the ear to a natural angle. Ears deformed by injury can also be reshaped, using cartilage from the patient’s own body. Hearing is not affected: the operation concerns only the outer ear.
What to expect at your first visit
Dr. Teker examines the cartilage and the angle of your ears and explains what the operation would change. Otoplasty takes about an hour, under local or general anesthesia depending on age and preference. Afterwards a soft headband is worn for about a week to protect the new shape; the skin stitches dissolve on their own, and the scar stays hidden in the fold behind the ear.
Frequently asked questions
At what age can protruding ears be corrected?
The ear has essentially finished growing by age six, so the operation is possible from then on, in childhood or at any adult age. The right timing for you or your child is discussed at the examination.
Will there be a visible scar?
The incision is made behind the ear, where it meets the head, so the scar sits hidden in the fold and is not visible from the front.
Does the operation affect hearing?
No. Otoplasty reshapes the outer ear only and does not involve the ear canal or the structures of hearing.
Will my ears be perfectly symmetrical afterwards?
No two ears are exactly alike, before or after surgery; small natural differences are part of every face. Dr. Teker discusses realistic expectations with you openly at the examination.
