Deviated Septum Surgery (Septoplasty) in Istanbul

Surgery to straighten a deviated septum — the most common surgical cause of a blocked nose.

Who it helps

Who is this surgery for?

If your nose is always blocked, you sleep with your mouth open, or one nostril never seems to breathe freely, the cause may be a deviated septum: a bend in the wall of cartilage and bone that divides the nose in two. Septoplasty straightens that bend to open your airway.

  • Constant nasal blockage — On one or both sides, persisting despite sprays and medication.
  • Sleep problems — Sleeping with your mouth open, snoring, waking often at night, tired mornings.
  • Struggling on exertion — A nose that cannot keep up when you walk, climb stairs or exercise, forcing you to breathe through your mouth.
  • Related complaints — Frequent sinusitis flare-ups and post-nasal drip.

The consultation and the process

What to expect at your visit

At the consultation Dr. Teker assesses the inside of your nose himself, locating the bend and checking whether anything else is contributing to your blocked breathing. Not every obstruction comes from the septum — the right diagnosis is the first condition of the right plan.

Classic septoplasty addresses the inside of the nose; it does not aim to change the outer appearance. If you also have a wish about the shape, you can raise it openly at the consultation: function and aesthetics can be handled in a single plan when needed.

Not every deviation needs surgery. The decision is made together, based on your examination findings and on how much your symptoms affect your daily life.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Will septoplasty change the shape of my nose?

No; classic septoplasty addresses the bend inside the nose and does not aim to change the outer appearance. If you also have an expectation about the shape, you can assess it together at the consultation.

Sprays and medication don't clear my blockage; is surgery unavoidable?

Not every blocked nose needs surgery. Dr. Teker assesses the cause of your obstruction personally at the consultation and tells you plainly whether surgery is warranted.

I have a deviation but few complaints; should I still have surgery?

A bend on its own is not a reason to operate; what matters is the symptoms that trouble you. The decision is based on your examination findings together with your complaints.

Is my snoring caused by a deviated septum?

Snoring can have more than one cause; a deviated septum is only one of them. Only an examination can show the source — after Dr. Teker assesses you, you go through the picture together.
